Arizona Bird Conservation Initiative (ABCI)
.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department and partners developed the Arizona Partners in Flight Bird Conservation Plan in June of 1999. Of the more than 280 breeding bird species in Arizona 43 are considered priority for conservation and management focus in 13 major habitats identified in the plan.
In 2002, the Arizona Bird Conservation Initiative was launched in partnership with the Intermountain West and Sonoran Joint Ventures. This state initiative convenes regional working tables for local partnerships and identification of priority needs for bird conservation. The two joint ventures and the Arizona Game and Fish Department offer sources of funding for projects identified through these local Arizona Bird Conservation Initiative groups. Additional information can be found at the Arizona Partners in Flight.
